I very much enjoyed the dinner last night.  Having spoken with some of
your students, it occurred to me to ask you to distribute the
announcement below to the graduate students in your department... many
folks from Stony Brook will be attending this symposium, and it should
be especially educational for the students, as it combines a
retrospective on this seminal experiment with a summary of what is
presently hot in the physics of neutrinos and fundamental symmetries.

Neutrino Helicity at 50:

 

A Celebration of the Goldhaber-Grodzins-Sunyar Experiment

 

February of this year marked the 50th anniversary of the experiment that
established the neutrino helicity.  To celebrate this event, Brookhaven
National Laboratory is organizing a one-day Symposium, to be held at BNL
on Friday, May 2, 2008.

 

The Symposium will look back on this experiment and its impact on
particle physics, and will highlight current worldwide activities and
future prospects in neutrino physics.  All interested members of the
scientific community, and friends of Maurice Goldhaber, Lee Grodzins,
and the late Andy Sunyar are cordially invited.
