Subject: Registration for research courses From: Laszlo Mihaly Date: Wed, 06 Jun 2007 13:32:18 -0500 To: "pagra-l@lists.sunysb.edu" CC: Pam Burris , "pmkoch@notes.cc.sunysb.edu" Registration for the Fall courses is open. I have already discussed breadth courses in my April 25 email (see posted here: http://graduate.physics.sunysb.edu/board/). Here is some important information for registering to "research" courses. PHY 580 is for students not advanced to candidacy doing experiment PHY 585 is for students not advanced to candidacy doing theory PHY 595 is for MSI students and exchange students working on a Master's thesis PHY 699 is for PhD students advanced to candidacy working on thesis project PHY 700 and 701 is for PhD students advanced to candidacy, working off campus. Talk to me if you think you should register to any of these. If you believe that you will advance to candidacy early in the semester, you may register to PHY 699. The section numbers of these courses represent the instructors. IMPORTANT: All faculty and nearly all adjunct faculty have their own section numbers, see the list below. You should register in the section representing your instructor. Always talk to the instructor before registering. Do not register under Section 1 (Pat Peiliker). Do not register under my section (53), except if you do not find your real instructor on the list - talk to me before registering. Students with more that 24 credits (i.e. after the first year) should register to 9 credits. I strongly urge all students to register for PHY 698 (Colloquium) for 1 credit. The typical registration of an advanced graduate student should be 1 credit for PHY 698 and 8 credits for PHY 580 or 585 or 699.
