Subject: Registration to Research Seminars From: Laszlo Mihaly Date: Thu, 18 Jan 2007 12:02:36 -0500 One more note about registration. Attending research seminars is an important part of the professional life of every scientist. I am sure nearly all of our graduate students attend at least one weekly seminar (and the colloquium). Course numbers PHY 664-678 belong to the seminars run by the various research groups. I encourage you to register to the seminar you are attending. For advanced students, I recommend that you register for 8 credits of research and use the 1 credit for registering to your favorite seminar. This semester we have four job searches going on: we are looking for junior faculty in computational, condensed matter, nuclear and particle physics. Four different committees worked hard to select the best possible candidates for these jobs. Quite a few of the seminar talks will be presented by candidates. Pretty soon many of you will have to present a job interview talk. Go to the talks, and see how is it done by the best! Cheers, Laszlo PS.
